Located at the Site C Dam, Peace River Hydro Partners is the prime contractor on the BC Hydro Site C Clean Energy Project. We need you to help us build this legacy!The Construction Safety Officer (CSO) will support the project’s Health and Safety Management Plan. The CSO will act as one of the project’s primary safety representatives and will be present in all work areas. The CSO will control potential health and safety hazards related to the main civil works contract, in accordance with applicable safety laws, policies and best practices.The CSO will support Construction Management in the pursuit of zero incidents through collaboration and technical ability.ResponsibilitiesBeing thoroughly familiar with the contents of the PRHP Safety Management System, and the applicable federal, provincial, local law and policyWorking with the managers to communicate the Safety Management System to all workersMaintaining open communication with the managers to ensure ongoing compliance with the Safety Management SystemInforming workers of potential dangers in the workplace and advising them of precautionary measuresProviding workers with responses to any concerns about occupational health and safety requirementsParticipating in pre-job meetingsFacilitating appropriate planning and communication between project team membersReviewing our subcontractors’ safety materials and the qualifications of their personnelCoordinating safety orientationsConducting daily safety observationsConducting periodic safety inspections in each safety area to ensure implementation of the PRHP Safety Management System; informing all workers and managers regarding the outcomes of these inspectionsContinually identifying hazards for mitigation, assessing safety risks and implementing controlsIdentifying and documenting unsafe acts or conditions that require immediate correction and communicating them to the parties involvedNotifying the project leadership, and direct supervision of all incidents and safety concernsInitiating stop-work procedures when requiredEnsuring that injured individuals receive timely and appropriate medical attentionAccompanying injured workers to medical facilities to ensure correct and proper information is given to the attending medical personnelEnsuring that all incidents, accidents, property damage and vehicle incidents are reported promptly and thoroughly investigatedSupporting incident investigationsForwarding all incident reports and associated information to the PRHP LeadershipEnsuring that injured workers are provided with appropriate modified work duties in accordance with a physician’s recommendationsConsulting with the Project Director, the Health and Safety Director, Site Safety Manager, and Managers on all safety and health issuesConducting weekly safety meetings and providing the minutes to the Site Safety Manager, the applicable PRHP LeadershipEnsuring that all required safety documentation is reviewed and stored within the project’s document control systemCreate Standard Operating Procedures, Safe work practices, and any other safety related reports, procedures and documents as required# of Hires Needed1Exemption TypeHiring ManagerJob RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPerform duties with tact, diplomacy, and a collaborative approachRecognize the team approach toward safe constructionAbility to sort, check, and verify informationAbility to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficientlyDemonstrated ability to write risk mitigation documentsDemonstrated ability to use sound judgment to compile information, identify issues, take appropriate action, or involve others as necessaryDemonstrate initiative and the ability to recognize opportunities for enhancing the PRHP Safety Management SystemFlexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hoursIntermediate Microsoft Excel and Intermediate Word Processing skillsAbility to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum directionExcellent written, verbal communication, and collaborative skillsExperience/ QualificationsCRSP designation is required6 years hands-on Safety experience in the heavy industrial construction industry, at least 1 year in British ColumbiaExperience in large scale civil, concrete and dam experience and assetPlease Note: This is a site-based position located at the Site C Dam in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Preference will be given to qualified, local candidates. However, we will also consider fly in/out candidates based out of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton.
