We specialize in pre-fabrication, modular systems and installation of large scale residential, commercial, institutional, educational, and medical design-build plumbing and mechanical projects.Our company is growing! We are looking for a highly motivated, safety-oriented and enthusiastic team player to join our team as Junior Construction Safety Officer. This is a long-term, full-time employment opportunity, reporting to our Health & Safety Manager.Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:Promote a culture of site and shop safety where safety is seen as a shared responsibilitySupport and promote Occupational Health & Safety Program and COR program alongside the Health & Safety ManagerConduct Site VisitsMonitor safety compliance of workers and sub-contractorsProactively identify hazards and implement corrective measuresArrange and conduct safety meetings on siteFacilitate TrainingFacilitate Safety orientations for all new hiresIdentify and conduct speciality training requirements and qualifications – fall protection, confided spaces, etc.Organize ongoing training to ensure compliancePerform Fit TestingConduct Incidents/InvestigationsParticipate in JOHS meetings, incident investigations and project kick offs to take meeting minutes.Conduct hazard assessments, incident investigations and risk assessmentsEnsure all accidents, incidents, and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties and data is properly tracked for metricsConduct and document site inspections and site hazard auditsImplement DisciplineMonitor, recommend and implement corrective action suggestions resulting from inspections, investigations, site visits, and safety committee reports.Identifying and documenting unsafe acts or conditions that require immediate correction and communicating them to the parties involvedCertificate of Recognition (COR)Ensure requirements for COR certification are being metReturn to Work Program ManagementEnsuring that injured workers are provided with appropriate modified work duties in accordance with a physician’s recommendationsManage WCB and Short-Term Disability claimsMonitor employee progress in their RTW plans and revise said plans to reflect changes in their recoveryUpdate Safety ManualAssist in the development and enhance Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents based on existing materials.Review, on a continuous basis, the performance of the safety program and make recommendations on changes and improvements, should they be required.Remain current on all Worksafe BC and OH&S legislation and update the PMP Health and Safety Manual accordinglyAcquire competence and understanding in executing Organization’s Safety programUnderstand all business unit safety programs, company codes of business conduct, site specific procedures and management systems.Seek to understand and meet the demands of various stakeholders, including internal and external clients.Administer first-aid as necessaryPerform other duties as assigned.Job requirements:Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designationKnowledge and understanding of BCCSA COR is required2-3 years of experience or equivalent educationRelevant industry Health and Safety experience in the construction and/or maintenance industries is an assetSolid knowledge of BC WorkSafe regulations, policies, guidelines, and standardsAbility to work independently as well as in a team-based atmosphereExcellent organization, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrates attentive and active listening skillsAbility to effectively communicate and present information to the hourly workforce, while also effectively interacting with project management staff, clients, and customers.Ability to provide a proactive approach to safety,A strong team player attitude with the ability to effectively adjust to changing priorities and demands.Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with clean abstract.Occupational First Aid Level IIYou value teamwork and consider yourself a true team player.
