We are proud to be a Company recognised by industry awards for operational excellence and performance, sustainability, gender diversity and pay equity.We seek an experienced professional to fill the role of Safety Officer.This fixed term and full time]position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. The mine is fully permitted and began production in fall 2017.Our Safety Officer will join a dedicated Safety team. Reporting to the Manager Health and Safety, your role will provide leadership; help set direction and oversight for all matters related to Health and Safety strategies, practices and undertakings throughout the site.Identify and apply consistent leading H&S practices.Review and consolidate risk registers to identify risks and critical controls that mitigation unwanted exposures across H&S practices.Ensure corrective actions and lessons learned from internal and external sources are effectively communicated and consistently applied.Report weekly and monthly H&S metrics, scorecards and reporting.Actively participate in the development and maintenance of standardized contracts that effectively communicate H&S expectations, behaviors and requirements.Conduct frequent site inspections to assess/audit H&S performance.Assist responsible management with preparation, execution and regular testing of regional and site-specific emergency response plans.Develop and monitor audit practices that support all H&S systems.Work with management to manage health exposures and to increase awareness of work-related health risks.Support the design and management of on-site medical services and coordinate off-site medical support and evacuations.Apply Atlantic Gold Corporation standardized programs for H&S training and induction as required.Maintain H&S training records specific for workforce as required.Monitor and advise relevant management of compliance with H&S plans and objectives.Provide assurance against local, provincial and national legislative requirements.Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:A personal commitment to behavior consistent with St Barbara's Values including honesty and integrity, respect, working together, delivering to promise and striving to do betterAt least 3-5 years relevant Health & Safety experience.Understanding of various mining operations, process mil operations and variations of process and support equipment.Experience working across various languages and cultural environments.Demonstrated ability to self-manage and influence change across a variety of working environments.University or professional qualifications in Health, Safety and Environment and/or Management.Comprehensive understanding of the development, implementation and monitoring of H&S systems.Competent in Risk Management processes related to H&S practices.Must be a self-starter, capable of working independently but closely aligned with teams’ goals and objectives.Hold a Nova Scotia drivers’ licence (or recognized equivalent) and insurable in the province of Nova Scotia.Able to safely operate light duty truck on and off road.Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is considered an assetOR certification in industrial setting considered an assetAbout Us'Grow our own Success' approach with a preference to develop and promote internallyDeveloped and structured professional development opportunities and educational assistanceCompetitive compensation, health benefits and RRSP matching program2020 PDAC Viola R.
