Job Description

Department: Anatomy, Physiology and PharmacologyStatus: Term,Employment Group: ResearchFull Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0Salary Information: The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.Posted Date: 2/22/2021Closing Date: Until Filled.Number of Openings: 1Primary Purpose: This position is to provide support to the zebrafish facility (0.5 FTE) and technical research support to a biomedical research laboratory (0.5 FTE).Nature of Work: The candidate will work in a collaborative team environment with two scientific labs (Eames and Collins labs) and also the staff in the Lab Animal Services Unit (LASU) in the Health Sciences building on campus. In addition to technical services, the candidate will provide management of the zebrafish facility (0.5 FTE). In the research lab, the role will be to perform general lab duties and assist lab personnel with experiments (0.5 FTE).Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Within the zebrafish facility, duties include daily feeding of zebrafish nursery stocks, preparation and maintenance of live feed, ethical handling of adult zebrafish, maintenance of zebrafish stock and inventory, equipment upkeep and cleaning, training and helping research lab personnel working with zebrafish, facilitating interactions with LASU personnel, and general fish room duties. Within the research lab, duties include molecular biology work, performing routine lab duties and assisting lab personnel with experiments.Education: A minimum B.Sc. in a biological discipline is preferred.Experience: Experience in animal care (either in lab or at home); preferable molecular biology experience.
